Ian Douglas | Digital Design

I design to have a relation to beauty.

Silence is so accurate — Mark Rothko

Logomarks, brands

I create logotypes and marks that stand amid time and raise the ceiling of potential on what they represent. This is the core of design: encapsulating while liberating inherent potential.

I also design digital applications, from small to high traffic web projects. I bring strong design and conceptual input, and a strategic overview that translates to solutions that add value to client projects.

Branding, logos, graphic design, web development.

Combining technical precision, trend awareness, and intuition and creation, I offer solutions to real world needs.

With each client I set out to understand where they are in their respective fields and deploy design to help move them to where they want to be. My goal is to elevate every project, and I don’t stop until I arrive to something that could.

Design, in my view, is about developing tools that allow projects to grow in competitive — sometimes harsh — environments.

I listen. I explore both the generic and the less familiar. The ideal solution connects the centre and the edge, the known and the new and unknown. Throughout the design process, a conversation between me and the brand develops.

The world is ever more visual, driven by the speed imperative. Design is becoming ever more important. Interconnection breeds an omnipresent instant, making identity not only obligatory, but the foundation of recognition and survival. Design is not a luxury, but a baseline.

Minimalism is not a lack of something. It’s simply the perfect amount of something — Nicholas Burroughs

Mike Davidson —

I don’t start with a design objective, I start with a communication objective. I feel my project is successful if it communicates what it is supposed to communicate.

Design is a way of life, a point of view. It involves the whole complex of visual communications: talent, creative ability, manual skill, and technical knowledge. Aesthetics and economics, technology and psychology are intrinsically related to the process — Paul Rand

Code informed design

As a code-aware designer, I develop solutions that match real world requirements. Great design that doesn’t work in code doesn’t help.

I keep my eye on the fundamentals: clean and valid code, search engine optimisation, and leveraging layered technologies (advanced caching, reverse proxy configurations, and content distribution network solutions) to bring speed and a fluid end-person experience.

Aesthetically, I try to unify functionality with design. As a goal, I strive for web presences that add to and reinforce the identity of the project.
